Does The Luminary Press charge authors to publish their work?

We are a traditional publisher, which means we do NOT charge authors to publish their work. Rather, we negotiate royalties with the author at the time of signing a publishing deal, which are then paid out following the sale of the book.

Does The Luminary Press offer an advance to authors?

Accepted Answer

The Luminary Press covers the cost of all aspects of the publication process, from editing to marketing to distribution. Authors are paid any owed royalties on a quarterly basis, following the sale of their book(s). Whether or not an advance is negotiated in addition to the/as part of the publishing deal will depend on the particular work in question.

Is The Luminary Press a Hybrid Publisher?

No. Hybrid publishers charge authors for services such as marketing, editing, and distribution, in exchange for publishing their work. This is often in the range of thousands of dollars, and also often includes royalties from book sales in addition to the upfront costs. The Luminary Press uses a traditional publishing model (see above).

What services does The Luminary Press provide as part of a publishing contact?

Our services include editing, formatting, type-setting, illustration (if required), marketing, printing, distribution and fulfilment. The Luminary Press partners with third-party providers for access to a wide distribution network, including to international and online retailers. We also explore the works' potential for film and movie adaptations.

How long will it take for my book to get published?

Time to publication can depend on a variety of factors, including how much editing is required to get the manuscript print ready, whether illustrations are required, etc. Typically, the publication date will be at minimum 12-18 months from the signing of a publishing contract, and may be longer.

How many titles does The Luminary Press publish each year?

As a small traditional publishing company, we take on a short list of books that are carefully selected. For this reason we will not be able to offer publishing contracts to as many authors as we would like. As we grow, we hope this number increases.

How long will it take to receive an answer on my submission?

Accepted Answer

We aim to provide authors with a response within 4-6 weeks of their original query.

Does The Luminary Press accept printed submissions?

Accepted Answer

No, we only accept electronic email submissions that follow our submission guidelines. Any physical copies of work will not be considered and will not be returned to the author/creator.

Should I send in my full manuscript?

Please do not send in a full manuscript unless we specifically request it from you. Please consult our submission guidelines for specific instructions on how to submit queries. Submissions that do not follow the guidelines will not be considered. Full manuscripts received without a request will not be considered and will not be returned to the author.

Ensure you proofread and polish your sample chapters and query letter so that it looks and reads professional. You may wish to consult sample query letters online to see how successful authors have structured their submissions.

We do not consider submissions that are incomplete. Please ensure that your work is completed in full before you submit a query to us.
